Planning your wedding and have questions about photography? You’re not alone! In this article, I answer the 10 most frequently asked questions that brides and couples have about wedding photographers in Portugal whenever they meet with us, especially in the Lisbon, Cascais, and surrounding areas.

1. How much does a wedding photographer in Portugal cost on average?
Prices vary significantly depending on the photographer’s experience, the deliverables included (files only, albums, framed photos…), and the service duration. On average, a wedding photographer in Portugal can cost between €1,200 and €3,500, potentially more if it includes video, a second photographer, or additional photo sessions. Keep in mind that the cheaper the service, the more likely you are to attract unnecessary problems.

2. What is the best wedding photography style for me?
The most common styles are:
- Documentary / Photojournalistic – captures spontaneous and real moments without photographer intervention.
- Editorial / Aesthetic – more posed and artistic, like in a fashion magazine.
- Classic / Traditional – focused on formal and family portraits.
Our style is a blend of documentary and editorial. We have a very specific aesthetic: natural but always romantic, doing everything to respect the moment and each couple’s personality. Another thing our clients love is not having to worry about whether they will look good in the photos. To save time and keep everything fluid, we tend to direct all the “posed” shots to ensure you always look your best.
3. How far in advance should I book my wedding photographer?
Ideally between 9 to 18 months before the wedding. The most sought-after photographers book up fast, especially between May and October, the time of year when most couples in Portugal choose to marry.
We only do one wedding per weekend to ensure total dedication to each couple and to maintain our short delivery times. Availability can fill up quite easily.

4. Is it worth hiring a second photographer?
Yes, especially if:
- You have many guests (for example, more than 200).
- You want to capture both sides of the preparations.
- You don’t want to miss any spontaneous moments.
A second photographer allows for richer and more complete coverage of your day.
5. How many hours should I book for the wedding day?
It depends on the dynamic of your day. The most common is 10 to 12 hours: from the preparations until the cake cutting or the opening of the dance floor. You can also opt for partial coverage. In our case, our packages are always flexible, adaptable, and we don’t have hourly limits so that our clients don’t have to worry.

6. Is it worth doing an engagement photoshoot (pre-wedding)?
Yes! Besides being a time to create beautiful images in a more relaxed context, a pre-wedding session helps you:
- Get more comfortable with the camera.
- Get to know your photographer better and familiarise yourself with their way of working.
- Use the photos for invitations, the wedding website, or even venue decoration.
We love this relaxed time with our clients, so we decided to include a pre-wedding photo session in our main packages.
7. I don’t like being photographed… what can I do?
This is incredibly common! The secret lies in:
- Choosing a photographer who puts you at ease and with whom you feel empathy.
- Doing a photoshoot before the wedding.
- Trusting that you will be naturally guided.
At Boris the Cat – Wedding Photography, we focus on capturing your essence with lightness, naturalness, and without overly forced poses.
8. Will we receive all the photos? How many are there?
Many photographers work with a limit, others prefer to deliver what is necessary to tell the story of your day well, and others still deliver thousands upon thousands of photos.
Years ago, we chose to deliver all the best photos, the ones that make sense to tell the story of your big day in a complete and coherent way. On average, you receive between 900 to 1,500 images for a full wedding. All are carefully edited and published in a private online gallery for you to view, download, and share with friends and family.
9. Do you edit all the photos or just some?
Yes, all delivered images are edited with our own timeless style: soft colours, natural skin tones, balanced light, and great attention to detail.

10. Can I send a “must-have” photo list?
Yes! It’s useful for family photos and essential moments. But I also leave room to capture the unexpected… because the best moments aren’t planned, they are lived.
Conclusion
Choosing a wedding photographer goes far beyond the budget. It’s about finding someone you trust, who respects your day and knows how to tell your story through images. If you identify with a natural, elegant, and romantic style — we would love to tell your story.
